What we collect

Michigan Dash doesn't require an account, and using the bill tracker itself, including picking a profile, reading bill summaries, and browsing by category, doesn't require you to submit any personal information.

The only personal information we collect is what you choose to send us: if you sign up for Michigan Dash email updates, which also unlocks the pastel page colors, we collect your email address, and your first name if you give it.

How we use it

We use your email address only to send the Michigan Dash updates you signed up for. We do not sell, rent, or share your information with third parties for their own marketing purposes.

Companies that help us run the site

A few service providers run parts of Michigan Dash for us: Netlify hosts it, Mailchimp keeps our email list and sends our emails, and Google provides site analytics and the site's fonts. They handle your information only to provide their service to us. Like most websites, our host and these providers receive your IP address and basic browser details when you visit.

Our emails

Our emails tell us whether they were opened and which links were clicked, so we can see what's useful. You can limit this by turning off images in your email app.

How long we keep it

We keep your email sign-up until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it. If you unsubscribe, we keep your email address only to make sure we don't email you again.

How we protect it

Your information travels to us over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection. The sign-up form includes an invisible spam filter that keeps automated bots out. No system is perfectly secure, but we limit who can see your information and keep only what we need.

Saved on your device

Michigan Dash remembers your page color choice, and whether you've unlocked the pastel colors, in your own browser. That stays on your device and isn't sent to us. Clearing your browser data resets it.

It also remembers the profile you last chose, so you can skip the picker next time. That stays on your device and isn’t sent to us. Choose “Change profile” or clear your browser data to reset it.

Spreadsheet downloads

When you download a list of bills as a spreadsheet, the file is created in your own browser. Nothing about the download is sent to us.

Site analytics

This site uses Google Analytics to understand how it is used, such as how many people visit, which pages they open, what kind of device they use, and their general location (city or region). Analytics does not tell us your name or who you are. Google Analytics uses cookies; you can block them in your browser settings, and the site will still work. You can also opt out with Google's Analytics opt-out browser add-on. Learn how Google uses information from sites that use its services.

Do Not Track and tracking across sites

Some browsers have a "Do Not Track" setting. There is no common standard for how websites should respond to it, so Michigan Dash works the same way whether it is on or off. Google Analytics may collect information about your online activity over time and across different websites. You can limit this by blocking cookies or using Google's opt-out add-on above.

Third-party links

Michigan Dash links to external sites, primarily the Michigan Legislature's official site (legislature.mi.gov) and legislators' official websites. We aren't responsible for the privacy practices of these third-party sites.

Your choices

You can unsubscribe from email updates at any time using the link in any of our emails. To see, correct, or delete the information we have about you, contact us at info@capitolwatchusa.com.

Children's privacy

Michigan Dash is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13. If we learn that we have, we will delete it.
